This is a bright, happy painting, full of sunshine. I am drawn to the light. In addition, little birds have always appealed to me. Putting these two elements together resulted in an eye pleasing painting with bold colors characterized by a positive expression of delight.

Mango Tango

There is surely satisfaction in taking something so basic as a piece of fruit and creating a painting. In this particular picture I decided to tweak the colors a bit by choosing to paint the mangoes more blue. The resulting painting is cool in hue and well contrasted with the warm, reddish brown branches.

Hibiscus Heaven

Birds and flowers are a very natural combination. Hibiscus by themselves are quite interesting to capture in watercolor. However, I decided to add the tropical birds for an exciting color contrast. When finished I was tempted to name it "The Observers" for that is what the birds appear to be doing.

Showgirls

Irises are very majestic flowers. They herald spring and stand in a stately manner that almost demands "look at me". They wear gorgeous colors and grace our gardens with beauty. Don't bother picking them because they shrink up and withdraw quickly. On the plus side, the roots multiply abundantly and so can be separated and shared easily. I love painting them!

First Catch

The inspiration for this painting came from a true story. During the 1950's a wooden bridge was the only access to the local barrier island. It became a popular spot for locals and visitors alike to fish off this endless pier. An acquainance said that his only family vacation as a child was to this very area He learned to fish, had a wonderful time and never forgot. I decided to capture his memory on paper.

Sur le pont - Avignon

I chose to paint this picture because of a childhood attachment to the song "On the Bridge" sung in both French and English. A special trip to the city of Avignon to see this was a highlight in my life.

Almost Heaven

The setting for this painting seemed so delightful that I decided to paint my own special coffee cup, my glasses and the book I was reading. I feel this added to the authenticity of the finished watercolor.
