Pineapples are the symbol of hospitality. Ship captains, when returning to port, used to put a fresh one on their fencepost to invite the neighbors to share in his Bounty. About a hundred years ago pineapples were grown locally and shipped throughout the United States via water routes. Blight took care of that and the industry died off. They are fun to paint, especially when paired with a pear.
